The 411 on X-Mix 2014

Mixtape Atlanta presents their sixth annual X-Mix concert party benefiting Songs for Kids Foundation. This year's theme is taking it to the dance floor with a lineup full of 80s and original pop bands. Atlanta's Best 80s Synth Pop band, Electric Avenue, is headlining the night with support from The Love Willows, an infectious pop band from Nashville, and Goldwing, local original rockers with a pop swing. Atlanta 80s aerobics act, Aerobics Cube, will also be keeping the crowd warmed up and footloose between sets. Music icon James Hall is going to be in attendance too for the sixth straight year with a very special performance. 

Doors open at 8pm and Whynatte is starting the night off right with their annual toast and free shots to first 100 people at 8:30pm sharp! Mixtape Atlanta will also have an 80s theme photo booth snapping from 8-10pm.

For Mixtape Atlanta's annual X-Mix held on Friday, December 13 at Vinyl, the venue was transformed into a vision of merry and scary to reflect this year's theme of The Nightmare Before X-Mix.

Whynatte kicked off the party with a toast and round of shots for all those 21 and over, and Yosef was first to take the stage in a line-up that included Mel Washington, Wesley Cook, Aerobics Cube, The Electric Sons, and a rock filled finale by James Hall. Yacht Rock Revue also stopped by to perform a few songs. While dancing and music was had onstage, revelry and- probably too many Whynatte shots- overtook the crowd, including notable guests Butch Walker and members from Skid Row.

All proceeds from the night benefited Songs for Kids Foundation, and HUGE holiday hugs to all that donated in addition to the door cover.

The Nightmare Before X-Mix Lineup

No reason to fear Friday the 13th, because this year's X-Mix lineup is here!

For Mixtape Atlanta's 5th annual X-Mix holiday extravaganza we are adding some haunt to your holidays.

Join us Friday, December 13 at Vinyl to rock, party, and jingle at The Nightmare Before X-Mix sponsored by Whynatte and Soundbyte. Like every year, all proceeds benefit Songs for Kids Foundation. Songs for Kids is an amazing organization that in 2013 alone has visited more than 200 hospitals in 180 US cities bringing music and joy to sick children and their families.

Headlining X-Mix this year is Atlanta rock icon, James Hall, who in not only a longtime supporter of Songs for Kids, but the only artist to play X-Mix every year. One of our favorite new bands, The Electric Sons are bringing their festive indie/ electric music. Wesley Cook another amazing Songs for Kids supporter and talented popular songwriter will perform. 1980s workout group, Aerobics Cube is returning to get heart rates racing and shake weight's shaking with their unique take on dancing and decking the halls. Singer/ Songwriters Mel Washington and Yosef are both making the trip from South Carolina to perform, which will be a treat for all. The fellas from Yacht Rock Revue, longtime Songs for Kids supporters and X-Mix veterans, will also be making a special appearance.

Cover is $10; doors open at 8pm and music starts at 9pm. There will also be a themed Mixtape Atlanta Photo Booth and a special late night DJ set.

BMI Indie Rock Showcase

This Thursday, BMI is bringing an energetic lineup of Atlanta based indie rock bands to Terminal West. Magnets & Ghosts (featuring Collective Soul's Dean Roland) headline the night that also includes sets from The Romans and The Electric Sons.

The District Attorneys' JR.

The District Attorneys have just released a special treat for fans and it's the perfect gateway for new listeners too. Released on December 4, the four-song EP, Jr., is available for free download on iTunes and Spotify.

2012 has been a productively busy year for the Atlanta/ Athens band, who have continued to gain more popularity and acclaim, especially on the heels of the April release of the full-length, Slowburner. In many ways, Jr. is a fitting segue from Slowburner into the next- yet to be defined- step for the band. These songs are different. Lyrically Jr. is one of The DAs strongest collections. All four songs highlight different strengths and experimentations that could even be pushed further. Jr. has a noticeable maturity to it that comes across in the verses and music.

"King Is Boss"'s cutting lyrics "Burning down bridges and Building walls" coupled with a bouncy beat show a confidence that fits the band well. "Stupa" has a breezy nostalgic quality that keeps the listener engaged and finishes with a well placed punch: "Everything be damned." The track that will have you hitting repeat is "Target Practice." The song capitalizes on elements that the band has dabbled in before, but slickly deliver here. Between the rhythmic drums, ghosting harmonies, and well placed crescendos the song creates an exciting tension for the listener in its controlled power. The song proves, much like the rest of Jr., that sometimes a good trial in experimention produces a pleasing verdict.

X-Mix 2011 Wrap-Up

Mixtape Atlanta's third annual holiday party X-Mix was a Motherfluffin' success thanks to sponsor Whynatte, entertaining musical acts, and a room of party people at Star Bar! Whynatte got the party started in festive fashion by supplying Motherfluffer shots to the entire venue and a celebratory toast led by Whynatte co-founder Jesse Altman.

Lauren St. Jane and the Dead Westerns got the dance floor warmed up with their infectious country and rock original songs. Ben Deignan followed with an acoustic set featuring some of his popular songs as well as creative covers. Songs for Kids Foundation founder Josh Rifkind stopped by for his annual rendetition of "The Hanukkah Song" with a few lyric updates.

Aerobics Cube led the audience in some holiday inspired dance workout moves with their special Christmas song only set, including the creative "playing" of jingle Shake Weights. The newly formed super group of Bruce Butkovich (The Futura Bold), Chris Cox (The Greater Vavoom), Jade Lemons (Injected), and Rob Hammersmith (Skid Row) gave the audience a preview of their new band and songs. James Hall made his third straight performance at X-Mix with an original sing-along holiday song, he recently wrote for the occasion.

Wolves closed the live music section of the night on a high note and they were the perfect kick-off to the night long dance party that lasted well into the early morning.

It's Gonna Be a White X-Mix 2011

Mixtape Atlanta is returning to Star Bar for the third year in a row for our annual X-Mix celebration! This year we are dreaming of a White X-Mix as we celebrate the season and two remarkable charities, including a toy drive for Toys for Tots and all proceeds benefiting Songs for Kids Foundation. Come out and party for a good cause as Star Bar is transformed into a snowy wonderland inspired by the classic holiday film. In addition to holiday cheer, celebrate the launch of Whynatte's newest Pinnacle marshmallow vodka shot, Mother Fluffer; don't miss a special marshmallowy Mixtape Atlanta photo booth created in the shot's honor. Full music lineup will be announced soon, so mark those calendars!

After fighting an intense social media battle to name Whynatte and Pinnacle Vodka's new shot, Mixtape Atlanta emerged victorious with the name Mother Fluffer! We send a huge hug of thanks to all that voted for us and helped us edge out the competition for most votes. The name proved fitting due to the drink's yummy blend of Whynatte's signature taste, Pinnacle's new marshmallow vodka, and that attitude that comes with slamming a series of Whynatte shots.
