Shakespeare Follies! This Weeekend

Shakespeare Follies is returning to stage with a brand-new show themed around The Histories. Sound too much like high school? Don't fret. It's an evening of hilarious Bard-infused sketches, variety acts including magicians, dancers, and jugglers, and above all FUN! Think of it as Laugh-In (Shakespeare style).

Shakespeare Follies: The Histories is Saturday, May 17 in East Atlanta at The Arts Exchange. Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 8:30pm. BYOB is encouraged.

Sneak Peek at ANNA KARENINA

Academy Award winning writer, Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), is bringing Leo Tolstoy's classic to the big screen. Directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightly and Jude Law, Anna Karenina is an epic love story set against beautiful and complex Imperial Russia.

Anna Karenina opens in Atlanta theatres on November 21, but Mixtape Atlanta wants to give you the chance to time travel back to 1874 Russia at a special screening on Tuesday, November 20 at Landmark Midtown cinema. CounterPoint Giveaway

Are you still on a music festival high from Music Midtown? Well this weekend CounterPoint Festival is invading a 8,000 acre private and scenic Chattahoochee riverfront property located just 15 minutes from Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport. The three-day festival will feature the best of electronic and dance DJs and bands, and Mixtape Atlanta wants to make sure you are front and center for all the action.

For a Good Movie, Enter

One of the breakout hits from this year's Sundance Film Festival, For a Good Time, Call is set to open in Atlanta movie theaters this weekend.

When two polar opposites and former enemies find a new unexpected business opportunity in a phone-sex operation, they forge an unlikely friendship, experience hilarious adventures, and find unforeseen challenges. Starring Ari Graynor, Lauren Anne Miller, Justin Long, and Nia Vardalos, For a Good Time, Call is a hysterical cinematic ride.

PARANORMAN Activity

Focus Features and Lainka Entertainment, the Academy Award winning companies behind Coraline, have created a new world and twist on classic animation with ParaNorman. Combining stop motion animation and 3D filming techniques, ParaNorman tells the story of a boy who tries to save his town from a curse by communicating with supernatural creatures such as zombies, ghosts, and adults. The movie features voice talent from John Goodman, Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann, and others.

ParaNorman opens in movie theaters nationwide on Friday, August 17, but Mixtape Atlanta wants you to see it first! Moonrise Up

On June 8, Moonrise Kingdom will be released in Atlanta. Wes Anderson's first live action film since 2007's The Darjeeling Limited is set in 1965 and tells the story of two young lovers who flee their New England Island town to be together and the search party that follows. The film stars Anderson movie staples Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, as well as Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton.

Moonrise premiered at Cannes Film Festival to high critical acclaim and has been a strong box office draw in selective cities. The film will open at Midtown's Landmark Art Cinema on Friday.

Mixtape Atlanta is hosting a small screening on the film on Wednesday, June 6 at Landmark. Enter to win screening passes for two and check out this film before it is widely released. Seek Shelter with Denzel and Ryan

Blockbuster favorites Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the new action- thriller Safe House opening nationwide on February 10. Washington plays a rogue CIA spy that surfaces in South Africa and must rely on a rookie agent played by Reynolds to figure out who is behind a series of attacks. When a covert safe house is bombed, Washington and Reynolds must join forces to figure out if the attacks are terror related or something internal.
