Channel Your Inner Country Music Star and Win an Appearance on CMT!

Do you have what it takes to be a Music Row superstar?  Screen Gems and country music network CMT are searching for the next Taylor Swift or Brad Paisley, and they're searching right here in Atlanta.  And if you win the grand prize, you'll get an all-expenses paid trip to Nashville to strut your stuff on CMT.

It's all part of the marketing for Screen Gems' new movie Country Strong, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, and Leighton Meester (in theaters January 7).  The Atlanta winner receives $500 and a spot to compete for the grand prize.  Cruise on over to their website and check out the songs "Country Strong" and "Silver Wings," then prepare a sixty second acapella version (American Idol audition style, yo!) of one of them.  The Atlanta competition is this Thursday night, December 2, at Swallow in the Hollow in Roswell.

It's That Time, X-Mix is Here!

Last year, Mixtape Atlanta launched our annual holiday extravaganza, X-Mix! The response was amazing. The holiday themed music showcase raised over $1,000 for Songs for Kids Foundation as well as several barrels of new toys for Toys for Tots. This year we want to raise even more for these worthy causes.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 18 for X-Mix Vacation at Star Bar. This year we are celebrating the festive frivolity of holidays with The Griswolds. Trances Arc, Young Orchids, The Futura Bold, Yacht Rock Revue, and more will be performing their catchy original tunes as well as some holiday favorites. Need a last minute gift? Any of these bands' CDs or merchandise would make even Mr. Shirley smile. DJ Jack Frost will keep the dance floor toasty with his signature party tunes.

99x is partnering with Mixtape again to help spread the word and cheer about this amazing night of music for great charities. Whynatte will help everyone stay enegerized and fesitval with some special seasonal cocktails, and Sugarbuzz Cupcakes and King of Pops will be onsite for some tasty treats. Mixtape Atlanta's photo booth will be buzzing too to make sure everyone remembers the fun.

Admission is $10 or $5 with a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. All proceeds benefit Songs for Kids Foundation. Door open at 9PM.

 

The Stuffing Leads to The Leftovers

Favorite Gentlemen's The Stuffing at Center Stage Music Complex is completely SOLD-OUT, but no fear. You can still party with your favorite bands and friends at Mixtape Atlanta's The Leftovers, the official after-party for The Stuffing. The Leftovers are free to anyone who was lucky enough to purchase a ticket to The Stuffing, and more tickets will be available at the door for only $5 until capacity is met. Start your Thanksgiving holiday right! Cool off with a King of Pops popsicle, gobble up some turkey sandwiches, and fall into Mixtape's autumn themed photo booth. The Leftovers is 18+ and will start at 11:30PM.

Hank & Cupcakes Sweeten Drunken Unicorn

Hailing from Tel Aviv by way of Brooklyn (of course!), Hank and Cupcakes have taken the New York music scene by storm and Friday, November 19, they invade Atlanta's The Drunken Unicorn. Their self-professed brand of "sexy pop" is high energy and layered on their self-titled EP record, a record produced- by the way- by Grammy Award winning producer Mark B. Christensen of N.O.R.E. and 50 Cent fame. Onstage they manage to set the crowd's feet tapping with just wife Cupcakes on drums and vocals, and husband Hank on bass.  

Fans of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Matt & Kim definitely won't want to miss this one.  And for everyone else, this is a great chance to see one of the buzziest NYC bands around. Time Out New York named them a "Must See Act" of CMJ.  Fly Magazine praises them as well: ""Armed only with a drum kit, a bass guitar and a complete disregard for their own limitations, the two smack and slap their way through herky-jerky dance-pop songs that bristle with sass and sexuality."  Time to sex up your Friday night! After The Stuffing Consume The Leftovers

We here at Mixtape Atlanta love a good party and this time, we are the ones throwing it! Following Favorite Gentlemen's The Stuffing on Wednesday, November 24th at the Center Stage Music Complex, Mixtape Atlanta is presenting the official after-party, THE LEFTOVERS! DJ's from some of your favorite bands will be spinning their favorite tunes in Vinyl starting at 11:30PM. Jake Turner from Say Anything and Trevor Dowdy from I Married My Highschool Sweetheart will be on hand and so will our favorite pop-maker of another kind, King of Pops. We'll also have "leftover" Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches for you to gobble-gobble. Entrance is free with a ticket from The Stuffing (tickets available here) or only $5 at the door just to dance! 18+ to party, 21+ to drink!

November 12, Atlanta's Young Orchids and Nashville's Young Hines take over Star Bar's stage for a night of riotous, rock talent. Doors open at 9PM, music starts soon after, and cover is only $7. Be there!

 

Pin Up, Get Down at Diesel

Friday, November 5 Diesel hosted a special event aimed at all local Betty Pages and Fonzies...or at least people dressed up like them. Pin Up, Get Down was the perfect end of the week party offering a little more sass than your usual Friday watering hole. A pin up girl makeup artist was on hand to give dames a little more color and curl, while the Pelvis Breastlies entertained with Elvis tunes, and Whynatte offered up drink specials. Mixtape Atlanta was also on hand to capture the fun in our RED HOT photo booth. Check out the photos, here.

Taste of Atlanta 2010

October 23 and 24, Taste of Atlanta returned to Midtown's Tech Square for another stellar showcase of local culinary talent. With cooking demonstrations from Top Chef favorite Kevin Gillespie to Grammy Award winning Toni Braxton and Family, the main cooking stage offered a diverse group of talents and recipes.
