BMI packed Vinyl Thursday night to showcase some of rock music’s most promising acts. Atlanta’s Stellate started the night off right with their blend of pop-punk tracks that drew the audience to the stage and onto the dance floor. Charleston’s Crowfield followed with their own unique sound of jazz, rock, and blues filtered through their Southern charm. Crowfield’s originality and quiet storm approach to their performance slowly attracted the crowd to them, but once they grasped the audience the crowd was hooked. By the end of their set, they had the most enthusiast crowd reaction of the night. State of Man’s power rock hits continued to keep the energy high. With their passionate songs of love, loss, and dreams, it is easy to see why their hits have been streaming more on the radio. Lead singer John Stringer also exhibited his rockstar aptitude by reprising the same song he performed at 500 Songs for Kids- U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love),” which lead many into a sing-along. The Greater Vavoom closed the night with their electronic, funk, dance set. Although lacking a drummer and keyboardist, they proved that true showmanship is all about attitude.
